Connect Tockety to Jira

Tockety logs time straight to Jira Cloud, so all you need to get going is a Jira connection. Tempo is an optional second step for teams that use Tempo Timesheets.

Step 1

Connect Jira Cloud (required)

You need three things: your Jira Cloud base URL, the email address of your Atlassian account, and an API token. Enter them in Tockety under Settings, then choose Jira.

Jira Cloud Base URL

Your Jira Cloud Base URL is the web address where your organization's Jira instance is hosted.

Open your Jira site in a browser

Look at the address bar - your Base URL will be in the format: https://your-domain.atlassian.net

Copy this URL and paste it into the "Jira Base URL" field in Tockety settings

Note: Make sure to include https:// at the beginning of the URL.

Jira API Token

Generate an API token to allow Tockety to access your Jira account securely.

Go to your Atlassian account settings: https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens

Click Create API token

Give your token a descriptive label (e.g., "Tockety")

Copy the generated token immediately - you won't be able to see it again

Paste the token into the "Jira Token" field in Tockety settings

Important: Store your API token securely. It has the same permissions as your password.

That's it. With Jira connected, worklogs are written to the Jira issue the moment you stop the timer. You only need Step 2 if your team uses Tempo.

Step 2

Integrations (optional)

Only needed if your team logs time through Tempo Timesheets. Connect a Tempo token, then choose Tempo as your destination under Settings → Time logging. Worklogs go to exactly one destination, so nothing is duplicated.

Tempo API Token

Generate a Tempo API token so Tockety can log through Tempo, keeping your Tempo accounts and work attributes intact.

Make sure you have Tempo Timesheets installed in your Jira instance

Open Tempo's API integration page in your Jira site: https://[your-domain].atlassian.net/plugins/servlet/ac/io.tempo.jira/tempo-app#!/configuration/api-integration

Click Generate Token or Create Token

Give your token a descriptive name (e.g., "Tockety Integration")

Copy the generated token

Paste the token into the "Tempo Token" field in Tockety settings

Open Settings → Time logging and choose Tempo as your destination. From then on, stopping the timer logs through Tempo and asks for any required work attributes and the Tempo account.

Tip: Replace [your-domain] in the URL with your actual Jira domain.

Troubleshooting

Connection Issues?

If you're having trouble connecting, double-check that:

  • Your Jira Base URL is correct and includes https://
  • Your email address matches your Jira account
  • The API tokens are copied correctly (no extra spaces)
  • Your tokens haven't expired
  • Your Jira is on Jira Cloud (Server and Data Center aren't supported)

Worklogs not showing where you expect?

Tockety writes each worklog to exactly one destination. Make sure the right one is selected under Settings → Time logging: Jira for native worklogs, or Tempo if your team uses Tempo Timesheets. Jira and Tempo sync with each other, so a worklog logged through Tempo also appears on the Jira issue.
